PERSONAL, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL

Our children are supported to express their own feelings and develop positive relationships with their main carer, peers and a wider circle of adults around them. We encourage them to build their confidence and to feel valued as an individual in order to be assertive and be independent. They develop their skills in making choices, taking turns, caring for others and developing awareness of their cultural background.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Physical activities directly contribute to shaping the structure of the brain in the baby and the young child. Research shows that children, who rarely play, develop brains 20% to 30% smaller than normal for their age. We support our children in developing their gross motor skills such as crawling, walking, jumping, climbing, kicking balls and balancing. We encourage them in learning how to develop their fine motor skills, such as posting objects, constructing, threading, mark making and manipulating tools.

COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE, & LITERACY

We provide a responsive verbal and non-verbal language environment in which children are listened to and offered appropriate responses. We encourage our children to show interest in others and to participate in the two way process of communication through sounds and words. We encourage them to acquire vocabulary by listening to stories and rhymes, by asking and answering questions and joining in conversation with adults as well as other children. They learn to hold tools for writing in an appropriate way.

EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY

We believe that it is through exploration and discovery, imitations and watching role models that children gain knowledge and understanding of the world around them. We encourage the children to start discovering some rudimentary examples of cause and effect and to start exploring varieties of objects. They also learn to differentiate between animate and inanimate objects

CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

The children learn how to develop stories, tell stories and use their imagination in role-play. We also encourage them to represent their ideas and experiences symbolically. They gain experience of using different materials, textures and colours. The children learn how to make shapes, which represent real objects and explore work with three-dimensional shapes. They also develop spatial awareness, respond to music, take turns and learn how to listen to others

MATHEMATICAL DEVELOPMENT

We encourage our children to learn counting, shapes and colours. They learn with puzzles and other teaching materials. We encourage them to participate in games involving counting, sorting and matching. They engage in concepts of addition and subtraction, which aids understanding of numbers.
