We work in partnership with parents at all times.
Settling In Procedures
The parents and their child should make a pre-start visit to the nursery two or three times before the actual start date. This will be for periods progressing each day from 1hr to 2hrs and 3hrs. The key worker for the child will seek to develop a sensitive and responsive relationship with the child and the parent/carer during this period. This is to enable your child to learn the necessary independence required on the actual start date. Parent’s are to let their children’s Key Worker know the likes and dislikes of the child, sleeping arrangements, feeding arrangements and comfort items required. Parents are required to bring the following list of items. Child’s winter and summer blankets, hat, sun cream, tooth brush and paste, beakers and extra set of cloth. Additional items for babies: Bottles and formulas, nappies, wipes and nappy rash cream. All items should be properly labelled with the name of the child.
Home/Nursery feedback Book: You will be provided on a daily basis with information on the food eaten by your child, the mood of the child, the activities of the day and a nappy chart. Parents have opportunity to use the same book to provide feedback to us.We will provide a 6 monthly progress report.
Home Visit: Based on agreement, your child Key-worker will make a visit to see your child at home. This is to enhance the level of partnership which we seek to ensure that your child achieve his/her full potentials.
We recognise parents as the primary educators of their children. Our staff team work in partnership on this basis with all the parents. Opportunities are provided for parents/carers to share information with us on a daily basis or through open evenings, suggestion box, social events and parent’s notice board. We welcome new experiences and resources from parents which will further enrich our work with the children. Parents/Carers are welcome to contribute to policy development. Parents/Carers are encouraged to take part in our observation process and contribute to the children’s record of achievement. We support and promote parenting skills.
Policies And Procedures: We have a full policy called Parents as Partner Policy Document in the office. Among other policies in this document are: medication policy, behaviour policy , equal opportunity, child protection policy, health and safety policy , outing policy, special education needs policy e.t.c. All parents are advised to read the document in the office prior to the child’s admission to the setting. (during settling in) Your child’s pictures will be taken to build their profile book.
For health and safety purposes, dangling earrings, bangles and other types of jewellery put on the child or attached to hair are not allowed in the nursery. The nursery does not accept responsibility for the damage or loss of any item. All personal belongings of the child must be labelled. Parents are welcome to speak to the Manager or to the Deputy to discuss issues about the welfare of their children or if they have a concern or query. We appreciate a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise as we care for your chid. We have support services for parents receiving child tax credit.
Security
We will only release a child to known parents/guardians or other authorised persons. Please submit clear photographs and signatures of adults who will be collecting your child. You will also be given a personal identification number (PIN), which you can use if you need someone else to collect your child. We will not deviate from this rule under any circumstances. The safety of the children in our care is our first priority. CCTV cameras cover the premises. In addition, we have a Nursery Cam where you can see your child from home or from the office only with special arrangement. A password is required to enjoy this service. An additional charge is made to provide the service.
Health And Safety
Health and safety issues are included in our staff induction and job training. Regular safety checks are made before each session. We have a visitor book at the reception and arrangements for answering the door. All our equipment and toys are Ofsted approved.
Late Collection
Late collection after 6pm will result to a fine of £1 per minute. These charges are not for profit, but to prevent parent’s coming late. Children can also be easily upset when the collecting routine is disrupted. No child will be allowed to leave the nursery alone without a known adult or with a child under the age of 16years. * The nursery’s liability insurance policy are only in force during our official opening hours.
Health
Parents should report notable diseases or infectious ailment to the nursery immediately. This will enable us to take prompt action and inform other parents so that their children will not be at risk. Please keep your child at home if you suspect any infectious disease. The nursery reserves the right to refuse admission if a child is unwell or suffering from contagious disease. A list of contagious ailments is available on the parent’s notice board. In case of emergency the nursery will make every effort to contact parents or guardians. The nursery has the right to act as loco parentis for the child in case of illness or emergency as parents authorises us in the registration form. Actions may include hospitalisation if necessary.
Medication
Only medicines prescribed by Doctors will be accepted and given to your child at the nursery. You will be asked to complete and sign our medication book. This is designed to give an accurate description of how and when the medicines are to be administered as well as the details of the Doctor prescribing the medicine. We are prohibited from administering non-prescribed medicines.
Undressing Your Child
We may need to undress your child partially to ease high temperature and during water play in summer months or if your child messes himself or herself up.
Complaint
Parents having cause to complain should either speak to the Manager or the Deputy Manager. We will respond as soon as possible. If our response is not satisfactory, complaints could then be made to the Learning Trust. If the issue is not resolved at this stage, parents have the right to phone Ofsted.
Behaviour
Our goal is to promote acceptable behaviour and respect for others. Children must not hurt one another in any way, including saying unkind words, bullying, racist comments swearing, kicking, biting, and being rough with others or hitting. Good behaviour will always be valued, encouraged and rewarded. Where a child consistently displays un-acceptable behaviour, a warning letter will be sent to the parents and The nursery will seek professional advice to support the child.
Where a parent continue to be rude to staff or management, we will make every effort to settle the dispute. If it failed, we reserve the right to expel both the child and the parent/carer.
Smoking
We recognise that smoking is lawful and a matter of choice for adults. We however recognise that smoking is an activity disapproved of by many parents and to which they do not wish their children to be exposed. We have therefore designated all the premises within the confines of the nursery a smoke free environment.
Equal Opportunity
We acknowledge, promote and respect diversity in the immediate and wider society. Our provision is carefully organised and monitored to ensure all children have access to the full range of activities. Family members and staff work together to share information on issues such as cultures, home language, play activities etc.
Special Education Needs: We cater for Special education needs children.
Safeguarding Children/Child Protection:
If we suspect a child is being abused, the nursery reserves the right to contact the Social Services. Full policy is available at the office.
Either party may terminate this agreement by giving six weeks notice in writing during which the nursery undertakes to continue to admit your child, and the parent undertakes to pay fees on due dates. Parents could withdraw their child without notice. In this situation, the one-week retainer advance payment is forfeited.
